Toothaches and extractions are linked, but one does not necessarily lead to the other. However, when you do require your tooth removed, you can depend on the gentle, expert care that we at Rockland Endodontics have built our reputation on.
The very first thing that you should do when you have a toothache is to come to our office as soon as you can. We’ll make it a priority to have you seen in a timely manner. No matter what the reason is for the pain in your tooth, waiting is not going to make it better. In fact, it is far more likely to make it worse. If your tooth is fractured or damaged due to injury or accident, the chances of saving it go up impressively if you take quick action. Root canal, our specialty, is the treatment that saves many, many infected or damaged teeth. The sad reality, though, is that there will be some occasions when our Rockland County extractions are unavoidable, even if you seek our help right away. You can be assured that our goal is a painless procedure for you. It is performed under local anesthesia to numb you sufficiently. After the tooth has come out, gauze will be provided to stem any residual bleeding, which is completely normal after oral surgery. Over the next 24 hours, you should follow the detailed instructions we provide you. They include using over-the-counter pain relievers if you experience any discomfort once the anesthesia has worn off, and an ice pack on your face to manage swelling, if applicable. You should eat only soft foods during that time (broth, gelatin, pudding, etc.), and rinse frequently with salt water.
